Bourbon Liberty 100, the performance of the DP II system
DP2 System on Bourbon Liberty is excellent, it performs with highest position accuracy with minimum actuator activity.
In this operation, we knew that we couldn't drop anchor as per their normal operation procedure we have to tie alongside rig. Thus, with their permission we decide to stay alongside them using DP II system.
After checklist fully completed, we approach port side of rig on DP MODE with 2 dgps as position referrences initially. Then we ask them to put the cyscan reflector on the their side and start the cyscan… "voila"- working good. BEIER DP II system was working and performing well.
We stayed there on DP II for the duration of our job: pumping fuel oil and offloading/backloading deck cargo for 43hrs without any positioning problems. Even though the dgps signal is sometimes lost - which is likely usual when we are close to platform - with cyscan as the origin reference we do not face any problems.
Superb position keeping performance with wind reaching 15knots and current 3.1knots from stbd bow (not able to optimize the best heading because of the rig's flare boom), it only goes astray to 0.15m (6inches) and you barely hear the thrusters utilising only 12% of the available 2470KW. So, my impression with the BEIER DP II system so far, is excellent, it performs with highest position accuracy with minimum actuator activity.
